These are the individuals who appear in the exhibition and alongside are their interviews. You can see their portrait on the portraits page.

Arfon Wyn

Llangwyllog

Arfon is a singer and composer. He has been a member of Welsh bands since the 70s and has won Cân i Gymru twice – with Cae o Ýd and Harbwr Diogel. Arfon is the leader of the Moniars, a group that has been gigging regularly since the early 90s.

He was a teacher and headmaster and is known for his work with children with special needs. Work he is still doing. In addition to this he has been a County Councillor since 2022.

Bob Parry

Bodffordd

Bob is a familiar face on the island, having served as a County Councillor from 1981 until 2022. He was also President of the Welsh Farmers’ Union for 12 years. Originally from Lanbabo.

Dwynwen Parry

Moelfre

Dwynwen lectures in construction subjects at Coleg Llandrillo Menai. Dwynwen became an apprentice carpenter for her father on leaving school. Later she spent 5 years in college in High Wycombe completing a degree in furniture construction. Dwynwen has made 4 eisteddfod chairs.

Dwynwen is a member of the lifeboat crew in Moelfre, she was the first lady to be a member of the crew.

Meinir Gwilym

Llangristiolus

Meinir is a very well known singer, composer and presenter of gardening programmes. Born in Langristolus.

Elfed Jones

Cemaes

One of the main characters of Cemaes, Elfed runs a picture framing shop with his daughter Sian.

Elfed has had a number of different careers throughout his life, from being an electrician, soldier, barber, manager of the Anglesey Strangers pop group and a craft business owner. He is also a member of Llanbadrig Community Council.

Sali Thomas

Llanfechell

Sali works hard in her community by running a crafting group. Sally led the poppy project in the Church and is a very enthusiastic member of the Mechell Cafe and Shop volunteers.

Diane Jones

Beaumaris

Diane was nominated as she is a familiar face to everyone who drops by the potato stand between Pentraeth and Llanbedrgoch.

Gladys Pritchard

Holyhead

Gladys worked on the administrative side in a number of Holyhead schools. She has been a member of the Anglesey Eisteddfod Court for years.

Gwynfor Griffiths

Rhosgoch / Rhosybol

Gwynfor is a former police officer. He has enjoyed drawing since he was a young child. He draws often and publishes his pictures regularly on facebook. He has also had an exhition of some of his works in the Oriel.

Holly Cowling

Moelfre

Originally from Benllech, Holly now lives in Moelfre. She is a classroom assistant at the local school.

Jade Smith

Llanallgo

Jade was born and raised on the island. She has a degree in Environmental Science and is a keen horserider.

Josie Rhisiart

Llangefni

Josie has married into the island. Since Covid she has started the Môn Milers running group. She also likes wild swimming in Traeth Bychan.

Julian Lewis Jones

Rhosfawr (Brynteg)

Julian is originally from Rhosfawr (Brynteg). After completing his apprenticeship at Rio Tinto, Holyhead, he decided to go into acting. He has appeared in many plays and films. Casualty and the film Invictus to name two of his many performances.

Llinos Medi

Llanddona / Llanerchymedd

Llinos was raised on a farm in Llanddona. Following being elected a Plaid Cymru County Councillor in 2012, she became Leader of the Council in 2017. In 2024 Llinos was elected as Member of Parliament for Anglesey.

She is the mother of Elliw and Twm

Margaret Wood

Llansadwrn

Although not originally from Môn, Margaret was nominated for her work in the world of geology and the establishment of the island as one of the Unesco Geological Parks under the name GeoMôn. Margaret discovered some of the country’s oldest fossils in Llanbadrig.

Netta Hinson

Cemlyn

Netta is 101. When the picture was taken she had just had her 100th birthday. She has lived in the same cottage in Cemlyn since she was born. Her grandfather was the coxswain of the first lifeboat on the county in Cemlyn.

Nige Ault

Amlwch Port

Nige is a “Hogyn Borth” and is well known across the county in the world of football and pool. He plays pool for Wales.

Nige has raised thousands of pounds for charities by completing a large number of challenges, from walking around the island to walking back to the island from Cardiff.

Phil Blake

Bryngwran

Phil is from Bryngwran. He was nominated for his tireless work volunteering at the Iorwerth Community Pub and his work organising Philfest.

Stan Zalot

Beaumaris

Stan is one of Beaumaris’ characters. After working in Wylfa, Stan and his brother started a business taking visitors on trips to Puffin Island and fishing on the Menai Straits. In addition to the boat business Stan is a Member of Beaumaris Town Council.

A well know young Anglesey band.

Gwyn Roberts

Penysarn

Gwyn was born in Nebo, where he lived throughout his childhood. Gwyn was apprenticed as a carpenter before going to sea. After coming home to marry and raise a family, Gwyn worked as a carpenter before becoming a postman. He was a County Councillor and clerk of Llaneilian Community Council. Gwyn likes writing poetry and drawing.
